Raised amid the rich nature of Bizen, Morimoto grew up watching flames inhabit the half-sunken climbing kiln. His forms — made through yakishime, the primal unglazed wood-firing — open the innate vitality of clay and the thickness of time to a contemporary sensibility.

Alongside his tradition-rooted Bizen ware, the 《Shiroka — White Flower》 series shown here embodies that spirit. Fired white by his own method, this unglazed stoneware carries a lightness and quiet presence unlike the powerful image of conventional Bizen — a new form of Bizen ware, born by inheriting tradition and expanding it from within.

At the root of his work is a life lived with nature: wild flowers arranged in his own vessels, the land's bounty served on his plates. Each piece teaches the quiet richness of facing nature.
